Payne took a deep breath, hoping to calm his racing heart. As his knuckles landed on Detroit’s door, he released the breath. He’d waited two days after Micah’s request to make his way to Vegas. Payne couldn’t walk away from his club without some planning. Now, here he was, completely ready to fuck up Detroit’s life all over again. God help them both. Laughter and voices rumbled on the other side a half second before the door opened. Payne stared at a stranger. The man’s long blond hair and light green eyes looked somewhat familiar. He was incredibly sexy. The guy was at least six-three. His flannel shirt hung open over a white t-shirt while his legs were encased in ripped jeans. Payne’s gaze traveled down the man’s length to the work boots he wore. Even though they looked worn, they were also designer brand. The dude had looks and money. There was something about him. It niggled at the back of Payne’s mind, but Payne couldn’t place him. He was too confused by his presence.

Payne glanced at the room number. “Sorry. I must have the wrong room.”

“You’re looking for Detroit, right?”

Payne nodded.

The guy opened the door wider, exposing Detroit deeper in the room. He was smiling. Payne’s heart rate kicked up.

Detroit glanced his way, and his smile fell. “Payne?” he said, sounding confused, as he moved in Payne’s direction. “Is everything okay?”

At the mention of his name, the guy between them perked up. He stared harder at Payne.

Payne ignored him and forced his lips into a smile. He hadn’t expected Detroit to not be alone. “Yeah. I—”

“Micah sent you to check on me, didn’t he?” Detroit asked, interrupting him.

“Actually, I came to take you to dinner.”

That seemed to give Detroit pause. “You came all the way to Vegas to take me to dinner?”

The guy straightened away from the wall, looking amused. “That sounds like an amazing idea. Detroit, you should invite the man in, and I’ve got to be headed out. Big plans and lots of stuff to do... elsewhere. You know how it is.”

Detroit looked panicked. “No. Omen, you don’t have to go.”

“It was nice to meet you, Omen,” Payne said, taking control of the situation. “I’m sure you’ll get everything you set out to do accomplished... elsewhere.” Payne’s voice hardened on the final word.

To his surprise, Omen’s humor seemed to deepen. He stepped back and waved Payne into the room. Once Payne passed him, Omen didn’t close the door. He focused on Detroit. “I’ll check in later.” His gaze slid Payne’s way. “And you can tell me everything. Have a nice dinner, you two.” Without waiting for a response, Omen left them alone, closing the door with a snap.

Payne eyed Detroit while Detroit stared at the closed door as if trying to decide what happened. Fuck. He was amazing. Beautiful. Payne didn’t want to as much as blink. All he wanted to do was stare at him. Detroit was shirtless—like Payne had caught him in the middle of dressing to go out.
